Introduction

great car, shady dealership, and unfair Subaru Canada - to buy or not to buy, that is the question...

Reviewed: 2013 Subaru Impreza / WRX

4dr Sedan 148-horsepower 2.0L H4 5-speed manual AWD

Why the 2013 Subaru Impreza / WRX?

Powertrain performance

Excellent in snow, great on ice. With good winter tires - pure pleasure to drive.

Safety & braking

Excellent brakes - snappish and immediate, very good feel.

Driving position & visibility

Very comfortable seats, easy to find right position.

Fuel economy

Wow, this is what I said after 2 days with the vehicle, winter driving, and its cold winter here. I averaged 7.6 l/100km, mixed city and highway driving, at -20 celsius, through snow most time of these 2 days. Very impressive for awd vehicle!

Materials & workmanship

Inside it looks and feels very well-done vehicle, solid, modest, and convenient.

Why Not the 2013 Subaru Impreza / WRX?

Cargo capacity

Trunk is ok in this sedan. But I wish I would get a hatch for my test drive.

Tires

OEM tires are crap. I was lucky dealer put nice Blizzaks for winter.

Dealer practices

Dealership is a dealership - feels like crooks are running the place. Though they all are low-level crooks.

Price or payments

Subaru Canada, I have a question for you: why you charge 2k more here than in States? Give me one reason, please...

Warranty, maintenance cost

Manitenance costs will be high, from my past experience. Service by yourself,or use good tech from a local shop, who knows subaru. Yes, subarus are quirky and different. You need a tech with subaru-specific knowledge.

Conclusion

all the reasons to buy subaru impreza 2013, and all the reasons not to buy it. it is the cheapest awd on the market? no, jeep patriot is cheaper, and suzuki sx4 can be purchased cheaper (in Canada only, sorry US). is it a practical choice? probably not, based on dealership and subaru Canada quality.
