RF outside door handle was intermittently malfunctioning. When it failed, the door handle would present but pulling on the handle would not open the door. Tesla sent a mobile technician to my home. He replaced the door handle, for which I was charged $303. I was only charged for parts and not for labor or for the service visit, and the handle was working correctly when the tech left, about an hour after he arrived.
34000 mi The RF outside door handle that was replaced on 5/5/21 was again failing intermittently. In addition, the LF outside door handle was malfunctioning nearly 100% of the time. The problem with the LF handle was that when the door was unlocked, the door would immediately pop open, and when the door was closed, it would not latch and stay closed. A different mobile technician was sent to my home. He said that the RF handle had not been properly adjusted when it was installed on 5/5, a problem that he seems to have fixed. Unfortunately, in the process, he got the RF door glass out of alignment, causing wind noise on that side of the car, something that went unnoticed until after the technician had left. The technician then attempted to install an updated outside door handle on the driver’s side. After installation, he could not get the handle to “communicate” with the car. As a result, the LF outside door handle would not “present” so that door would not open from the outside at all. The technician called in another tech to assist him with uploading new firmware, but they were unable to do so. Their diagnosis was that the new part was faulty. I was not charged anything for this service visit, which lasted about 3 hours.
35000 mi

US $300
Tesla notified me that the repairs that my car needed were too complicated or required too much equipment to be handled by a mobile technician and that I would have to bring the car to the service center. July 20 – 5 weeks after the unsuccessful repair attempt – was the soonest appointment that I could get. They removed the RF door panel, adjusted the outside door handle and door glass, and seemed to fix the wind noise problem from 6/14. That door handle now seems to work properly. Upon disassembling the LF door, they decided that it needed a wiring harness, which they did not have in stock. It arrived within a couple of business days and was installed. Afterwards, Tesla said that they wanted to install “one more part,” again one that was not in stock locally. A couple of business days later, an updated control module arrived and was installed. Problems persisted, though, as they say that they had difficulty uploading firmware again (all of which makes me believe that the wiring harness really wasn’t defective at all.) On Thursday 8/5/21, after 17 days at the service center, my car was finally returned to me. Currently, everything seems to be working correctly. Initially, I was told that the repair would take 1 – 2 days, and I was given $200 in Uber credits for transportation. When it became apparent that the repairs would take a while, on Friday 7/23, I was given a loaner car to drive. The only charges for this visit were a total of roughly $300 for the wiring harness and the labor to install it. As a side note, I would like to point out that when I got my car back on 8/5, the interior – particularly the tan leather on the seats – was extremely dirty.

69000 mi Passenger driver side door handle would not present when unlocked and door could not be opened from the outside. Mobile ranger replaced handle with newest model, didn't fix. I had to make another appointment, two weeks later. Turns out it was an undocumented fuse in the wiring harness which needed to be replaced.
71000 mi LED running lights on headlights burned out. Both headlights replaced. Multiple errors in subsystems reported. Issue was the connector for the front bumper systems was not correctly connected during the headlight repair. Front bumper removed, connection cleaned and reseated and all was working again. Unfortunately I noticed several weeks after the repair was completed that they damaged the front bumper during the repair, but it is too late for me to make a claim. Rear hatch would not open. 37000 mi Left rear Door handle was not always making the door open. They found a corroded wire harness and replaced it with a new one.
And then it was discovered that neither front seat heater worked, and has to be replaced (not yet done, awaiting parts).
4700 mi Heated seats still not heating properly. Seat heaters (one of a handful of components outsourced (from a company in Australia)) apparently aren't designed properly, plus service folks misdiagnosed the problem initially.
32000 mi Power door handle on front passenger side stopped working (apparently a common issue with Teslas especially earlier-year models). Tesla mobile service technician came to our house and replaced it onsite in about 1 hr. Took about 1 hour.
41000 mi As warranty was expiring, made last-ditch attempt at fixing previously-unresolved issues: seat heaters not heating properly, passenger seat belt locking up on rare occasions. Nothing was resolved / done. Bad service department experience with Tesla (worse than ever before). Fortunately, the technical issues themselves are minor.

center console main display stopped working. no display, black screen of death. dealer was able to update with software flash but system memory was aging and expecting to fail. paid $ 700 out of pocket to repair. after the repair, Tesla publicly acknowledged there is an issue with the main display and aging electronic memory in their cars. we received an email stating if we had payed for this repair, we will receive an email in February 2021 with instructions on how to get reimbursed for this repair.

72124 mi

US $2145
eMMC failure in the media control unit (touchscreen). Known issue for Model S built before ~2018. Touchscreen would randomly not power up. Pulling the fuse for the touchscreen got it working again a few times over the course of a week, then eventually the touchscreen stayed off. At that point the car was drivable but it couldn't be charged and there was no HVAC. Media control unit (MCU) replaced with remanufactured part.
78000 mi Navigation showed error message: "Navigation unavailable. Navigation maps are not loaded." You could see the map and find a business/point of interest but not navigate to it. Mobile technician said that the car had started to download a new map file in the background over Wi-Fi but the car had been moved out of Wi-Fi range before the download was complete and has not connected to Wi-Fi for a while, so the download had failed permanently. Old map data was erased when the new maps started downloading. The car had to be moved near a strong Wi-Fi network and then I had to call the technician to have her remotely force the car to start the download again. After a few hours of downloading, the problem was fixed.
80000 mi There was a notification that maps had been updated, but also an error: "Navigation unavailable. Navigation maps are not loaded." The icon next it showed MCU_w007, which is an internal fault code. I had the same problem before; maps can be seen and location lookups work, but navigation is not functional. I scheduled mobile service with the app. The night before they were supposed to come out, I was driving and noticed that the location text at the bottom of the map was again showing the current road and correct city (indicating that the navigation was working properly again), so I cancelled the appointment. My guess is that someone remotely fixed something, but I didn't get any communication from Tesla to confirm it and wouldn't have even noticed that it was fixed if I hadn't been driving the car the night before the appointment.
65100 mi Had to replace the battery, car would not start. Warranty covered repair

Corrosion on drive side ground connection (5 cables on that ground), under the frunk. Caused occasional loosing of power steering, ABS, stability control, power brake, going to neutral, Christmas tree error messages. Unscrew the nut, but the aluminum stud broke. Decided to bring the ground connection elsewhere near the wheel using a 4 gauge cable from an auto shop near my house. Cable cost 18 CAD$, dielectric grease cost 8$. Also, bits of foam insulation tape were coming out of the air vents. This turned out to be an unrelated issue, but they disassembled and reassembled the dashboard to fix this as well. Tire pressure monitoring system had dead batteries in three wheels. The fix was apparently to upgrade all four wheels to a completely new TPMS that now reports the pressure for each wheel, versus the original that would only report good/bad status.
