2005 Toyota Tacoma Real Gas Mileage: Pros
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2006 4dr Crew Cab 5ft bed 236-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed automatic RWD
At the time of purchase, it had the best gas mileage of all the small trucks I looked at. (Ford, Chevy, Mazda, GMC) see full Toyota Tacoma review
2005 4dr Crew Cab 5ft bed 245-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed automatic 4WD, part-time w/low range
I get 21mpg in the warm months and only 18mpg in the winter. I use the 4wd a lot when roads are snowy or slippery. I had hoped for better gas mileage and find it ridiculous that there aren't better truck engines available from any of the manufacturers. A turbo-diesel four-cylinder would be much more practical in the Tacoma. see full Toyota Tacoma review

I expected better fuel economy for a small truck. But none of the trucks get good economy. The manufacturers need to get with the program on truck fuel economy. see full Toyota Tacoma review
