Reviewed: 2008 BMW 3-Series

4dr Sedan 230-horsepower 3.0L I6 6-speed shiftable automatic AWD

Why the 2008 BMW 3-Series?

Powertrain performance

torque + hp of the N51 is very usable across the rev range. smoth engine. GM tranny is seen being weak, but I like it ok. Not as nice as 335 Getrag but does the job.

Handling

tight handling and cornering heavy steering XI system works well enough in snow, rain, sleet.

Controls and instruments

intuitive controls austere but practical.

Safety & braking

great breaks. when i dirve other cars i forget that they dont stop like the 3 series and get in trouble

Exterior styling

elegant w/o flashy not too big or small

Why Not the 2008 BMW 3-Series?

Fuel economy

I average 20-22 mpg. getting expensive to run the car. I wish it was in the mid 20s, but 6 cyl and awd I guess it could be worse. and its not direct injection engine (reminds me to buy the injector cleaner stuff!)

Quietness

interior noise from door seals and stupid rear plastic vents.

Dealer practices

expensive and do not offer discounts. i got $100 off my car price (which was a super special but so what)

Feature availability

packages cost $$$ and my car is very base

Insurance cost

insurance is big $ and the car is going to lose a good amount when I sell/trade it in. 3k/yr depreciation is looking more like 4-5k in the first few years.
