Why the 2012 Dodge Durango?

Interior styling

A real step up from past Dodges and on par with vehicles costing more. Soft touch materials everywhere, efficient lay out of controls. Accent lighting looks great at night.

Cargo capacity

Puchased vehicle for it's versatility. Can esaily load 10 foot lumber pieces with front passenger seat down, tow several tons in my trailer, etc. Large cargo capacity with third row seat down.

Handling

Got the R/T. The imprsseive handling more then offsets a little more "bumpy" ride on rough roads. For a vehicle of this size it has a tight turning radius, manuevering in congested parking lots is not an issue.

Audio & nav systems

Great features. Nav works great, real time traffic congestion results in automatica calculation of alternate routes. Blue tooth works well. Stock audio system sounds great, is versatile and convenient to use.

Materials & workmanship

When I compared to other vehicles (Toyota and Honda), I decided the Dodge had superior materials throughout the cabin and fit and finish was superior. Love the exterior styling, a more bold statement and not cutsy cross over.

Why Not the 2012 Dodge Durango?

Depreciation

While researching for a new vehicle it was evident the total ownership cost for the Dodge was higher then competitors. Depreciation and fuel economy had the greatest negative contribution. Sine I am averaging 16/22 mileage cost is debatable.

Powertrain performance

At first I thought the six speed transmission was in need of repair. Slow, harsh shifting with occasional lurch with overdrive lock. Went away in about 1,000 miles, the transmission seemed to adapt to my driving style. At same time mileage wne up.

Dealer practices

Great sales representative. Horrible "sales manager". I only wanted to buy a car and not all the high margin add ons such as rust coating, extended warranties, etc. Sales tactics much to aggressive and would not take no for an answer.
