Introduction

Gave me 10 years and 143000 miles. Was four years old and had 52000 miles when I bought it. Very reliable until the last year. Finally had to sell it for salvage when the engine failed.

Why the 2000 Honda Civic?

Powertrain performance

This car gave me 10 years and 143,000 miles of service, before the engine went. It was four years old and had 52,000 miles on it when I bought it. Powertrain performance was generally good, probably helped that I had the 5-speed manual. Transmission shifted easily, though not quite as good as the Mazda I had before it, or the 2007 Civic Si I now have.

Fuel economy

Best mileage was 44 mpg on a long highway trip. Typically got low to mid 30s. Smallish 11.9 gallon tank hurt range.

Quietness

Was very quiet once in fifth gear. Noise wasn't too bad before that, either.

Front seat room

I had no complaints here.

Rear seat room & comfort

I just flat didn't fit in the back seat, so I never sat here while the car was moving.

Why Not the 2000 Honda Civic?

Audio & nav systems

Stereo quit after six years.

Exterior styling

Spoiler made me a cop magnet. Had aftermarket tail lights which one local police department was always pulling me over for, telling me they were illegal. (I call BS, they never wrote me a ticket over it).

Conclusion

If you can find one that's in good shape, and doesn't have a lot of miles, buy it!
