79800 mi My Scion is using about 2 or more quarts of oil between oil changes.
123000 mi Scion (Toyota) decided to give what they call a warranty enhancement for the excessive oil consumption on the scion xb's that fit in that catagory. I am in the process of having a oil consumption test done to see if they will repair mine.
130000 mi Toyota repaired my xb of the excessive oil useage that it was having , the pistons and rings were changed out.

Hiland Scion is worthless. Charged me $40 for analysis of a bad coil which I already knew. Had no repair parts on hand. I drove 160 miles in freezing rain and snow on three cylinders for nothing. Called Scion complained about Hiland Scion. Scion told me to take it to Deery Toyota for repair. Scion said they would reimburse my repair costs. Haven't seen a check yet. Hiland Scion really sucks.

Second time I had to replace an ignition coil. Did the work myself. Toyota charged $108 for the part.
47000 mi

US $60
This was the third ignition coil that failed on this vehicle. Replaced it myself. $60 for part. One original coil left.
83300 mi Water pump was leaking, water pump was replaced
22000 mi A pink spray line from leaking coolant was noticed on interior of hood and in engine. Toyota knows about water pump problem with 2AZ-FE engine so there was no denial from dealership about possible faulty water pump. Fixed under warranty.
124000 mi

US $25
Code P0302 cylinder 2 misfire code read. Changed all 4 spark plugs, cleared code and haven't had any other issues yet.

86000 mi

US $100
Car was recalled for replacement of pistons and rings which caused excessive oil consumption. This was a general recall by Toyota for multiple models using the same 4 cylinder engine.
97000 mi

US $600
Knock sensor stopped working. Diagnosis and replacement of part. Car caught on fire while being driven on PA Turnpike near DE exit. Total loss. Cause so far unknown. Update: I believe the cause was insufficient oil supply after having the pistons and rings replaced due to the Toyota recall prompted by excess oil consumption.
2000 mi ignition coil d misfiring misfiring ignition coil b
1100 mi Short in main computer module. Entire module was replaced.
110000 mi

US $225
Ignition coil #4 failed. Toyota had a TSB on the coils, but would not honor replacement of all the coils. Shame on Toyota for not covering the repairs. Now I am waiting for the other coils to fail.
86800 mi

C $335
Changed coils and plugs to correct miss which put it into "limp" mode.
89900 mi

C $9
Intermittent missing: codes read 2,3, and all, more or less at random when missing. I asked an old auto parts guy if it might be fuel? He suggested a can of Seafoam. That's what he uses. He said it would be better inside ten minutes if fuel was the problem. It worked.
91760 mi Intermittent missing combined with CEL reporting misfires on Cylinder 3, then others, then all of them. Cancelling the CEL reset the computer out of limp mode. Bewildered: coils and plugs are virtually new. Auto parts guy suggested Seafoam, a gas additive. Some success, but the problem remains. Might be computer.
96100 mi

C $500
Last fall I replaced coils and plugs. I couldn't believe they would be failing again, so I towed the car to Kingston and let the dealer test things for a day and then install nothing but two coils. It runs roughly, as if the other two coils (which I requested) should have been added. The reason they got to work on the car was it was going in anyway for an airbag -- after a two-year delay. Update: The dealer put in a lot of time on the misfire and then replaced a single coil. It runs fine now. No more trouble.
99200 mi My son put it on the hoist yesterday in pursuit of a rattle. It was the metal shield protecting the gas tank from the exhaust. An over-sized washer repaired it. His careful examination of the suspension revealed no problems.

OBD II device reported #3 cylinder misfire. Limped home 30 miles in well-below-zero temps. First, replaced all spark plugs (nearly 60,000 mile on them, burned to nubs) with NGK (6341) BKR5EIX Iridium IX units ($6.98 ea, shipped - from Amazon Prime). Though performance improved, #3 was still misfiriing. Swapped 3/4 ignition coils to confirm fault, then acquired four OEM Denso 6731306 Ignition Coils (also, from Amazon Prime, @ $58.78 each, shipped - as opposed to $125~$145 from dealer). Installed #3 only, holding others in reserve for the Scion xB or my daughter's 2004 Toyota Echo RS 5-door hatchback (Canadian), which shares the identical driveline. Note: the female ignition coil connectors on the wiring harness are notorious for failure, despite the greatest exercise of caution when removing. Dealer has no listing for individual replacements, offering only an $800~$1,000 complete engine wiring harness as a solution. A modicum of research led to the discovery that they share the identical part with the Toyota Lexus Ignition Coil Connector Plug (#90980-11885), which I acquired new (set of four) on eBay for $11.99. shipped. Haven't installed as yet, since my crossed zip-tie temporary fix has yet to fail...
