2014 Subaru Impreza Sport Limited Hatchback, with CVT transmission. Wife's car. Have changed the oil every 4k miles with Subaru 0-20 Synthetic and factory filters. Due to oil consumption problems on the early 2.0 FB engines, was worried about that a bit. But as of Oct 2016, have 35k miles, and zero problems. No measurable oil use at all.
Since Subaru is evidently too stupid to import a "Hot Hatch" to the US anymore, the only choice we had was the Impreza. The Sport Limited was the nicest one we could put our hands on. Added side skirts/strakes, sport grill, rear roof spoiler, and some aftermarket wheels. For a "Not Hot Hatch", it looks pretty damn good.
Buy this car if you want a car that's reliable with reasonable fuel mileage and epic bad weather habits. The Wife got PASTED in her 2006 WRX Limited Wagon, and the car held up very well. No major injuries to her, car was a write off. So I was told that I could buy her anything as long as it had a Subaru badge. Tried Audi, BMW, Mini, Lexus... and she was having NONE of it. I just wish the idiots running Subaru would give us a fast wagon or hatch again. Seriously. I'd buy one in a heartbeat. STI Hatch for a daily... yes please. But, I work for a Japanese owned company, so I am extremely familiar with their decision making "capabilities". They all sit around trying not to be the one who has to jump on the sword, frozen in their over analysis, etc. Just damn sad. Remember with Subaru owned the WRC? That was kinda fun, wasn't it? Nah, we'll just make boring but reliable people movers. Car enthusiasts (Like 99 percent of all STI owners) don't matter anymore. But since they won't build a fun hatch or wagon, the practical (boring) non turbo Impreza had to do. We optioned it out as much as possible. Interior materials are still pretty cheap. Feels like a 20,000 dollar car. BUT, it drives excellent and is amazingly capable in snow with the right tires on it. Honestly think that Subi's AWD system is the best out there. Have driven many other's and owned quite a few. (especially Audi's). The full time mechanical AWD system in the Subaru is simply unbeatable, at least in my experience. The old Torsen (Non Haldex) Quattro systems had a similar feel, but Subi's is pure magic. I know that Subi had some trouble with the early CVT's, but this one works very well. It propels the car at a somewhat impressive rate, considering the whopping 148 hp it possesses. The CVT emulates a 6 speed auto, and does it very well. Boring... reliable, great car.
