Why the 2012 Subaru Impreza / WRX?

Exterior styling

Very agressive and eye catching. The new body style mimics the STi and is a nice feast for the eyes.

Interior styling

Subaru seems to have retained its understanding that the driver should be distracted as little as possible. I like this. The fewer gizmos and other crap the better.

Driving position & visibility

Driving position is good; the steering wheel telescopes and tilts. The only thing is the C-pillar can impede visibility in the hatch.

Quietness

The car is relatively quiet, though at highway speeds the sound of the motor is noticeable. There is a bit more noise from bumps and such compared to higher end cars, but it is a serious improvement from cars int he recent past.

Powertrain performance

Very responsive, hitting 3500rpm is about where the turbo kicks in and it is a heck of a ride after that. Otherwise, the powertrain seems to respond well to inputs.

Why Not the 2012 Subaru Impreza / WRX?

Past personal experience

Once upon a time I wrecked a Subaru. I managed to survive an otherwise mortal crash. On top of that my family has driven the lugnuts off of subarus with hardly a problem mechanically.

Handling

Very planted in highspeed turns, the suspension is tightly tuned but also very comfortable which is a hard thing to do. Good turn in, minimal body roll.

Front seat room

Coming from both an MX-5 and Buick Century the cabin of the WRX is very spacious. There is good room for driver and passenger.

Front seat support & comfort

I drove he car for a better part of 2 hours today. The seats were very comfortable all around in rush hour traffic on city and highway roads.

Audio & nav systems

Mine has the basic audio setup. It is an ok system, nothing special especially considering the leaps that other automakers have made. The controls are simple and easy to use. However, it would be nicer if the control face was positioned lower.
