Reviewed: 2009 Volkswagen Touareg

4dr SUV 280-horsepower 3.6L V6 6-speed shiftable automatic AWD w/low range

Why the 2009 Volkswagen Touareg?

Audio & nav systems

This system in modern and highly functional. No complaints. The base audio system is great and there is no need to upgrade. The new nav is very user friendly and comes witha 40 GB hard drive.

Interior styling

Very nice and very masculine. There is a very elitist and highly functional design to the styling.

Feature availability

There are lots of bell as and whistles that come with this vehicle and for the price it ranges amongst the best value.

Why Not the 2009 Volkswagen Touareg?

Color choices

The color combinations are not that good. No basic balck leather but rather an off gray. If one opts for the tan leather, then the dash board / steering wheel is an off brown (should be black for contrast in my opinion). Paint quality is not that good.

Fuel economy

I do not have a heavy foot and the V6 gas version gets only about 19-21 on HWY at 60 MPH opposed to 24-27 with a X5. I drove 700 mi (interstate) and averaged only 19 @ 70 mph. Not good!

Dealer practices

For the most part I felt very uneasy at the dealership. They tried to put me into one with manual seats as they were not selling. Who would drop $45K for a vehicle with manual seats. They also gave me a hard time honoring Costco / USAA pricing.

Insurance cost

Insurance is fine; no issues but depreciation is horrible! for such a nice SUV.
