Serpentine belt worn. Did not break.. just squeaky. |
61000 mi US $90 |
Water pump gasket leaking. First thought that pump shaft seal was leaking, however, gasket discovered leaking when pump pully removed. Removed and replaced pump since it was such a chore just to expose pump. |
97000 mi | Secondary bank of air pumps failed. Low power, went into 'limp mode' with check engine light and Traction Control/VSC off idiot lights flashing. Known problem with 2007-2010 Tundras covered by 10 year/150,000 mile warranty. |

117100 mi US $600 |
Idler pully bearing bad needed a new one and replaced the serpentine belt also |
78000 mi | Replaced serpentine belt idler pulley assembly. Huge squeaky noise typical of bearing problem in pulley assembly. Dealer was not the purchase dealer, but did the job free. Peoria Toyota was great, despite not purchasing Tundra at Peoria Toyota. |
120000 mi US $2500 |
Secondary air injection pump with water intrusion. Major design error by Toyota. Total cost $2500-$4000 not covered by extended warranty. see: http://www.tundraheadquarters.com/blog/2010/04/26/tundra-sequoia-air-injection-induction-pump/ Update: had repair done at some point in 2011. |
253000 mi US $2000 |
Secondary air Pump improperly replace first time. The repair in 2011 was before Toyota discovered the problem of water being sucked into the secondary air pump. Toyota made the repair with original parts from 2007, not the 2011 fix that was the subject of the hidden warranty. Dealing with the Toyota folks on the telephone is the most ugly experience I've ever had. They deny deny deny and make you feel very small. However as a professor of mechanical engineering I stuck to my guns and eventually Toyota covered the second repair. I showed them the part numbers that was used in the 2011 replacement versus the part numbers for a 2016 replacement. |
85200 mi US $500 |
Water pump developed a leak. I noticed no leaking fluid, and the shop was only suspicious because the reservoir level had dropped since I had been in for an oil change shortly before. Pump replaced. Common problem on Tundra w/5.7L. |
109000 mi US $1200 |
The gasket for what Toyota calls the "cam tower" started leaking on the driver's side, and oil was visible on the block below it. The wasn't enough of a leak to show up on the garage floor where the vehicle is parked. User forums showed this is a common problem with the 5.7L. Diagnosed by Toyota during oil change, repaired for less by independent shop familiar with the vehicle. |
9300 mi | "Check engine light" - problem with defective "power steering relay" (apparently a common failure in extreme cold). No effect on vehicle, part is on order. |
9300 mi | Replacement of reported sensor failure last month. |
215000 mi US $150 |
Leaky radiator replaced with OEM Denso radiator. |
165000 mi US $1200 |

175000 mi US $400 |
serpentine belt pulley |
125000 mi US $1450 |
Replaced radiator, hoses, hose clamps, thermostat, flushed system, refilled with new antifreeze |
69000 mi | air pumps failed, air valves failed. it was ludicrous to spend $ 4,000.00 to repair emissions equipment with failure prone badly engineered replacement parts. living with problem instead |
79000 mi | Air pumps and air injection valves replaced. CEL off. Exhaust leak and noise. The repair caused a leak at the air injection tube to exhaust manifold gasket, since it took 2-weeks for the poorly aligned(or fitted) gasket to blow out the Toyota Dealership feels they have no responsibility. |
170000 mi US $10 |
Heatshield wore and fell off. Repaired by adding a larger washer to the mounting hole and bolting back on. Also heat shields on catalytic converters were missing bolts (rusted out) and rattling. Fixed by replacing the bolts. |

55441 mi | Secondary injection pump stuck open, Limp mode. |
76594 mi US $449 |
Water pump developed a leak which probably started at about 60,000 miles. The dealer asked if I would like to pay a small amount and replace the timing belt at the same time. Yes I do. Thank you |
105000 mi | A.I.R. pump and two AIR valves bad due to water intrusion. Codes P2442, and P2443. This is the second time for these codes with the first time at around 55,000 miles. |
93200 mi | 1 x cat converter Air Injection Pump. Dealer found an extended warranty from Toyota and replaced 2 x Air Pumps and 4 x valves as preventative measure (if one pump fails, the other is often soon to follow). Truck went into low power mode |
100440 mi C $300 |
The Accessory Belt Tensioner needed replacement. |

104000 mi | Replace secondary air injection pumps |
66000 mi | Both air injection pumps (aip) and valves went bad causing limp home mode. Toyota extended warranty on them till 150000 miles or it would have cost me $2000 according the the service guy. |
381-horsepower 5.7L V8 6-speed automatic RWD
26000 mi | Technician diagnosed noise (Bearing in idle arm tensioner failing) but was discovered 3 weeks after warranty expiration. Waited for OEM decision to fix under warranty. Repaired during last visit and replaced drive belt. |
157200 mi | AIP Failure. Secondary Injection Valve stuck open. Took apart and rebuilt it. |
159000 mi US $800 |
Replace both AIP pumps with new OEM pumps. Secondary or outer AIP pump full of waster. Water was up the tube and bowl was full causing failure. |
160500 mi | AIP failure again. P2441 Secondary air injection pump valve stuck closed. Water in pump shorting out wiring. I probably will order bypass/wiring to clear the code. |
163000 mi | I think finally got the AIP problem fixed. Tried by pass and it didn't work. Put original pump in primary position on the system in secondary pump's place. Secondary being supposively new, was a remanufactured one. No limp mode or check eng. |
165800 mi US $250 |
Since water was in AIP pump I now have a failure to the Air Switch Valve. Ordered part. According to tech when water is in AIP you have to replace this part as per TSB. I have a High pressure sensor Bank #1 code. In and out of limp mode. |
168000 mi | After 3 weeks fixing Air Switch Valve now have code P2445. In process of doing elimination of the problem. |

55000 mi US $50 |
Water pump leak. Replaced under extended warranty and engine belt replaced. |
88000 mi US $500 |
This is the P2442 AIP error that is common in all Toyota trucks. There is a 10y/100k mile extension on the parts but I am past 10 years. The system is for emissions testing at startup and the truck will go into limp mode if the test fails to work properly. It is sometimes the pumps and other times it is the valves that are under the manifold. In my case, one of the valves were stuck due to corrosion in the valve part. I replaced the valves with a new one from Toyota and went ahead and replaced both the pumps as well. Dealer wanted $2500 for the repair, I did it for $500. |
97000 mi US $850 |
Replaced Water pump and flushed coolant. Also had 5k service performed and fuel injector service (cleaned) |
105000 mi US $1875 |

102920 mi | Air intake went bad, would put truck in "limp mode". Toyota stepped up and replaced unit at no cost! Outstanding service for a 9 year old truck with 160 000 kms on it! Only problem with truck other then service (brakes, oil etc.) In almost 10 years. |
