Introduction

I've had my A3 for 9 years and have put 99000 miles on it. It has been a good car and given me good value. If you are looking for a quality small hatchback, this should be on the list.

Why the 2007 Audi A3?

Handling

The handling is one of the best things about this car. It has great road feel. It corners well. It is surprisingly stable and smooth at speed as small as the car is and has been comfortable on long trips (840 miles in 13 hours). I've accidentally found myself going 95 on the freeway and the car was fine with no small car stability problems.

Reliability & durability

I have hadzero major mechancal problems in 99000 miles. One repair: I had to replace a fan unit.Other than that it has beenbasic maintenance. Fantastic.

Powertrain performance

Great engine. The 2 liter turbo is perfect for this car. I have no problems merging onto the freeway, even on shorter ramps. It will maintian 75 up any grade with power to spare.

Why Not the 2007 Audi A3?

Materials & workmanship

The major structural items of the car are great. That said, I've had too many nit-picky problems with cheap interior and exterior items. The catch on the console lid was cheap plastic with a spring and it broke. The catch on the rear sunroof cover was cheap plastic with a spring and it broke. One of the strips that line the side of the sunroof on top of the car is popped loose. The hatch catches the back end of the strip and pops it out. Audi replace the original, but it still does it.Its a minor design flaw. Given the issues are minor I'm happy with the car. Still, for a $30k car, I expect better.

Rear seat room & comfort

The back seat is too small for most adults. I hadn't thought about it much when I bought the car, but it became apparent. I'd take friends to lunch and they are uncomfortable.Even ifa personplans on sitting small children in the back, they grow and the useful life of the car is affected. I wish the Europeans would figure that out.

Quietness

The A3 is not especially quiet. There is notable road and wind noise. The low profile tire and sunroof options make this even worse.

Conclusion

I'm in the market for a new car now. Won't be buying another A3, not that I don't think its good. I just need a larger back seat, and a car that will navigate the 2 mile dirt road around the back side of the lake full of people and camping gear.
