TrueDelta Reviews the Powertrain of the 2011 BMW 3-Series

2011 BMW 3-Series Powertrain: Pros
YearComment
2012 Quite a few current cars can deliver mpg's over 30. What makes the new BMW 328i special is that it delivers excellent fuel economy and strong performance in the same car, if not necessarily at the same time. The 328i's turbo four might not appear nearly as strong as the 335i's turbo six on paper, as it's down 60 horsepower (240 vs. 300), but in the real world the two engines aren't far apart. BMW's official zero-to-sixty times get the six to sixty only about a half-second sooner. The six is smoother and sounds better (the four sounds almost like a diesel at idle). But are these advantages worth $3,700 and a substantial fuel economy hit? Only if you can't stomach the idea of a four-cylinder engine in a car that starts north of $35,000 and tops $50,000 when loaded up. see full BMW 3-Series review

2011 BMW 3-Series Powertrain: Pros

2012 4dr Sedan turbocharged 240hp 2.0L I4
6-speed manual RWD
Seen a lot of reviewers badmouthing the new twin-turb 2.0L engine. Get so tired of people resisting change that I feel sorry for the manufacturers. If they don't innovate they can't remain relevant. Yet innovation brings the naysayers out in droves. I have owned both the inline six-cylinder and the new twin-turbo and I have to say both are fantastic motors. The new twin-turbo four-cylinder develops more power than the six did, and is a blast to drive. Turbo-lag is almost negligible as the power comes online very early. I've had no issues with this motor at all, and with it mated to the buttery-smooth six-speed manual, this is the most fun car to drive I have ever owned, and I've owned them up to 500hp+. see full BMW 3-Series review

2010 4dr Sedan 230-horsepower 3.0L I6

The BMW has terrific acceleration after a slight lag when you first step on the gas. In Sport mode, the automatic transmission revs with smooth speed that puts you ahead of the line when the stop light turns green. Responsive and powerful. see full BMW 3-Series review
