"Flapper valve" that controls the air flow through the dash vents, the defroster or heater vents. The cost was $1,210.00 to replace a $37.80 part. The entire dash had to be removed. The car has been back to the dealer twice due to "electrical" gremlins after this repair. The design of this is horrible. They buried this part so deep under the dash it took two days to fix the car. Stupid design and the service writer said that mine was not the first one he has seen. It is a common problem.

Went through 3 sets of rear shocks and 2 sets of front in 128K miles. Overall has been a good vehicle. Stealership repair rates were $5,000 between two trips - had a hose breank and dumped coolant on top of engine, $2500 ish in damage, not covered under extended warranty (!) - then ABS module and suspension all around, etc etc. Ultimately I can't remember it ever leaving my family stranded in about 100,000 miles of ownership. A little afraid of the high dollar repair possibilities going forward, planning to trade up (?) to a refurbished 2002 7.3 Excursion.
