Reviewed: 2004 Honda Pilot

4dr SUV 240-horsepower 3.5L V6 5-speed automatic AWD

Why the 2004 Honda Pilot?

Reliability & durability

At over 5 years age and purchased new, we have had no major breakdowns and only one major recall to adjust the transmisson oil jet for 2nd gear.

Powertrain performance

Loaded with 2 adults, 3 kids and gear, it accelerates sufficiently for family trips up I-95, while still maintaining 20+ MPG.

Handling

For a tall SUV, it handles much better than the Chevy Tahoe and Ford Epxedition it replaced. We particularly like its AWD system during wet conditions and during cornering.

Driving position & visibility

The wife especially likes the higher driver position for a commnding view of the road and visibility of surrounding traffic.

Cargo capacity

With parents, 3 kids, gear and a 3000 pop top in tow it has worked admirably (albeit with less MPG). Even on hikes up the mountains of NC/TN/VA we have been able to keep up with traffic
