Feb 2018 81000 mi	Driver side vents wouldn't spit out hot air. Dealer replaced the Heater core and blend doors. Car was in the shop just over 3 weeks all told. Would have cost ~ $3500 out of pocket. Dealer I bought the car from (discovered the problem 2 days after purchase) ate the cost. As a result of the previous trip to replace the heater core, the heater core hose was torn and I discovered that courtesy of the distinct smell of hot coolant. Dealer replaced under warranty of the previous work done.

Dealer found that part of the compressor "disintegrated" (their words), sending little metal shards all over. This was causing the noise, and required replacing the compressor, then doing a couple of evacuation procedures to get the metal out.
