2014 4dr Minivan 157-horsepower 2.5L I4
5-speed shiftable automatic FWD
The Mazda5 doesn't get great milage. But it's better than other minivans and most CUVs. Of the alternatives I shopped, the Mazda was the most frugal on gas. see full Mazda Mazda5 review
2010 4dr Minivan 153-horsepower 2.3L I4
5-speed manual FWD
Impressive considering all this vehicle can do (carry six, or a bunch of stuff). Driven with some restraint (60-65), I can average 30+ mpg on my weekly commute. With a microvan that can seat six. see full Mazda Mazda5 review

Better than our previous mini-van, mostly because of size. We drive it harder, so some of that advantage is lost :) see full Mazda Mazda5 review

Avg under 10L/100km one of buying criteria. good on hwy and not as bad as full sized van in city. Good for long summer road trips. see full Mazda Mazda5 review
2008 4dr Minivan 153-horsepower 2.3L I4

2014 4dr Minivan 157-horsepower 2.5L I4
5-speed shiftable automatic FWD
If only. If only Skyactiv came out during the 5's redesign. While gas usage is better than the competition, it's far worse than it could be. Just popping in Mazda's latest engine and tranmission combo would surely give several more mpg. Just a 10% improvement would make me happier. see full Mazda Mazda5 review

It uses twice as much fuel as a Prius. see full Mazda Mazda5 review

vehicle is heavy for its size so the fuel economy is not that great. see full Mazda Mazda5 review
2006 4dr Minivan 157-horsepower 2.3L I4
4-speed shiftable automatic FWD
My 4 speed automatic yields about 10.5 L/100 km on 50/50 highway and city driving with a conscious effort to stick to the speed limit and driving as if I had an egg under my right foot. Eh, I thought it would AT LEAST be under 10. see full Mazda Mazda5 review

The fuel economy is terrible. But it is hard to improve the mpg of such a functional and large vehicle. The car would be improved by greater use of aluminum, shutting down cylinders at high speed, and a hybrid drivetrain, even a mild start/stop one. see full Land Rover LR3 review
