2014	This year every Mazda6 has a 184-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine under its hood. The 2013's less powerful (170hp) 2.5-liter four managed only 21 mpg city, 30 highway. The 2014 does far better: 26/38 with the automatic transmission and 25/37 with the manual. When fitted with a 178-horsepower 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and manual transmission, the Ford Fusion earns identical EPA ratings. An Accord with a 189-horsepower 2.4-liter and manual transmission checks in lower, 24/34. In real world driving, the trip computer reported averages in the 30s--and as high as 38--in casual suburban driving and about 36 on a 70-mph highway. With such impressive numbers, I'm tempted to place fuel economy higher in the reasons to buy a Mazda6. see full Mazda Mazda6 review

My is MT and it is rated considerably lower than AT. But in my book it is good since I've done same mileage in my 2011 Mazda3, which also was noisier, less comforting and generally, smaller car with smaller engine. 2016	4dr Sedan 143-horsepower 2.0L I4 6-speed shiftable automatic FWD	This vehicle is a petrol automatic and the fuel economy is not too bad - around town its pretty good but out on the Motorway at 70 - 80 mph it is hardly any better than my previous 15 year old Volvo S80 petrol automaticwhich had a 5 cylinder 2.4 litre (this is a 2.0 litre less powerful engine) and weighed an awful lot more. Its giving aroun 40 mpg. The istop system seems to be a waste of money - it saves virtually nothing, you have to press hard on the brake pedal to make it work and the miles its claims to have saved are minimal - about 20 in 8,000. see full Mazda Mazda6 review
2016	4dr Sedan 143-horsepower 2.0L I4 6-speed shiftable automatic FWD	The fuel economy on this car is pretty good in my opinion. Its a petrol automatic and if I do half a tank of fuel on Motorways with the speedo at 80 - 85 and the rest of the tank around town I will see 40 MPG. 2014	4dr Sedan 184-horsepower 2.5L I4 6-speed shiftable automatic FWD	Fuel economy is good but not as good as Mazda claims, in 9 months I'm averaging about 28 MPG combined in 60/40 city to highway driving and now in the winter months here in Minnesota, where you need to let the vehicle warm up for a minute or two in cold weather conditions and using winter gas. Still better than most cars in this class and the Skyactiv weight reducing and engine and transmission improvements really do seem to contribute to a fuel efficient car that is still fun to drive and nice to look at! see full Mazda Mazda6 review

EPA ratings of 21 mpg city, 28 mpg highway aren't anything special for a five-passenger vehicle. But they are impressive for a true midsize SUV, especially one that weighs over 5,000 lbs. The gas V6 is rated 17/24 (four mpg lower on each), the similarly torquey V8 14/20. The Touareg TDI manages about the same, 20/29. The gas-powered LR4, even with a supercharged V6 taking the place of a V8: 14/19. In suburban driving the trip computer typically reported averages from 18 to 21, similar to the even larger and heavier Mercedes-Benz GL350. On one run home from my son's school I managed just over 29, but this involved a lot of luck with traffic lights and a very light foot on the throttle. During a small amount of highway driving the trip computer averages were inexplicably no better than in town. Maybe the weather conditions weren't favorable, as I've never fallen so short of an EPA rating before. Worth noting: diesel tends to cost at least as much as premium unleaded gas, and usually costs significantly more. The EPA ratings are 12 city, 18 highway (up from 12/16). The trip computer reported between 13 and 14 mpg in casual suburban driving. Go very easy on the gas, and it might crack 15. However, for a six month period I made a 40-mile round trip five days a week, and averaged 15MPG in mixed urban surface/Interstate driving. This is considerably better than the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4wd/4.7L V8 the truck replaced (13MPG), and I attribute the better performance to the MDS cylinder deactivation. I have observed 22MPG over a 400 mile trip of combined Interstate and rural 2-lane highway travel with speeds ranging from 60-75 MPH. The 4.7L V-8 engine, only moderately powerful, is far thirstier than the much more powerful 5.7L Hemi option owing to the Hemi's cylinder deactivation. Real-world fuel economy in city driving is 11-13MPG. On longer trips it can occasionally see 20MPG if speeds are kept below 70MPH. The 4.7L drivetrain is a compromise between the V-6 and the Hemi versions in terms of cost, with the added capability of being able to operate on E-85 fuel when properly equipped. You will undoubtedly want to go with the Hemi version instead of the 4.7L if you can afford it, the benefits are more than just the extra power. If you are familiar with the performance of the 4.7L in the older WJ models, prepare to be disappointed by the performance in the 2005-2010 WK models: they weigh 600 pounds more, and you can definitely feel the difference. Do not buy ANY Jeep Grand Cherokee if you are a budget-conscious big city commuter; you have to accept the fuel economy as the trade off for uncompromised traction in poor weather conditions. This machine has a "real" 4 wheel drive system: it's always on, it's always ready to step in when the going gets slippery, and provided the tires are good enough it will plow snow with its front bumper. A V-6 version only gets marginally better fuel economy but with a significant decrease in power. In truth, if you're worried about fuel economy, you should be looking at the car-based Jeep Compass or Patriot models, not the Grand Cherokee. see full Jeep Grand Cherokee review
