2005 Subaru Outback Pros and Cons at TrueDelta: Owner Pros and Cons by nhesketh
Powertrain performance
I love the fact that I can have an Outback wagon with sports car performance
Reliability & durability
I am 50 years old and have only had six cars, including this one, and four of them have been Subis. They will last forever if you take care of them, and the Outback is particularly rugged.
Brand reputation & image
It is a Subaru
Driving position & visibility
I like being a little higher up than a regular car, but not has high as an SUV/Pickup truck.
Cargo capacity
LOVE station wagons. Hated the one sedan I had.
Fuel economy
With gas at almost $4/gal, and driving lots of miles, long distance, I would love to get better than 26 MPG on the highway. I am going to slow down though, and I still do love the turbo.
Ride smoothness
Not great, not terrible, it is acceptable given that it is an AWD Outback wagon.
Quietness
It is loud on the highway, though since I changed over to Kumho all-seasons from the stock Bridgestones it had been much improved. Sometimes it is still hard to hear a phone call though.
Price or payments
Damn, it was expensive (one year old and cost $24K, original price something like $32.5K) but you get what you pay for I think.
