Why Not the 2008 Toyota RAV4?

Safety & braking

the brakes felt spongy and soft. It has a 4 star driver side rating for safety as well as the rear which is an oversight these days with big heavy vehicles all round. Handling is agile, but it feels tippy in tight situations

Interior styling

The center console is plasticky and looks like a robot face. The instrument panel looks like that from a corolla - or a simple econobox. It has no fuel trip computer in the base models. Interior colors are very sober and almost boring to look at.

Quietness

Wind noise is apparent at 45 mph. The engine is quiet, but not smooth and sounds strained when pushed unlike the CR-V which sounds sports and well balanced. over small bumps there were shudders and creaks on the inside of the new vehicle.

Ride smoothness

It felt float but not comfortable. The drivers view was almost like tilting forward on top of a truck. The suspension picked up all road irregularities and there was more road noise than in the CR-V over the same roads. Turns were secure but wallowing.
