Why the 2005 Chevrolet Impala?

Handling

The car had good breaking and very little body role. The steering was very responsive.

Rear seat room & comfort

Rear seat had good room. Passengers had good leg room. Only adults over 6ft would touch the backs of the front seat with their legs. Draw back was the low roof.

Cargo capacity

The trunk was large. We never had trouble fitting everything in when on vacations. Even while visiting relatives for Christmas several states away. We could easily get a family of 4 packed and gifts there and back in the truck. Never towed with this car.

Why Not the 2005 Chevrolet Impala?

Driving position & visibility

The driving position was OK, but the visibility was poor. The roof was so low and the trunk lid so high it was hard to see backing. The low roof required small side windows that cut visibility. The car had some large blind spots.

Reliability & durability

We had a lot of little repairs. In 120K miles, 3 water pumps, power steering pump, cracked front cover, alternator, instrument cluster (speedometer, etc..), roof liner started sagging, A/C required a lot of maintenance, int trim coming off and much more.

Materials & workmanship

Materials looked and felt cheap. The amount of repairs, replacing and reattaching of int. and ext. pieces was uncalled for. Ext. trim would fade quickly.

Insurance cost

The insurance was reasonable but the depreciation was not. On the other hand, all the issues this car had that was to be expected.
