Price or payments
If purchased/leased with the full suite of options it is a decent automobile. Having looked at other luxury brands, you do seem to get a fair amount of features for the price.
Handling
Comparing it to a Cadillac CTS/STS performance package, the handling is almost identical. It corners and maneuvers very well and so far I have been pleased.
Exterior styling
It has an interesting look. As others have mentioned, it seems to be derived from parts and pieces of other brands, but it is pleasing to the eye, with a European air to it.
Controls and instruments
In the case of the Technology Package, the controls are functional and somewhat intuitive. It takes very little time to be comfortable with the pseudo idrive controller. However, without that feature, it is just another Hyundai, nothing special at all.
Audio & nav systems
Although there is no touch screen option, the idrive controller works satisfactorily and so far I have found it to be dead on. The Nav Traffic is also reasonably accurate. The audio system is the equal of the Cadillac, maybe better.
Powertrain performance
This is a major disappointment for me. The select shift is really is a waste of space, because the Genesis shifts when it chooses, not when I would prefer. That is both up shifts and downshifts. It this was corrected, it would greatly improve the car.
Dealer practices
It is obvious that the dealers are more comfortable selling Accents and Sonatas. They appear to have no understanding of the wants/needs of the luxury automobile buyer. The entire process was uncomfortable at best.
Fuel economy
With all the added technology, I would have expected better mileage. I average slightly less than 20 MPH and that is the same as an older heavier STS without the latest and greatest engine management features.
Discounts & incentives
There are none. I found that every dealer in my area had tagged an additional 3K to 5K for the privilege of owning a Genesis. Had I not been able to negotiate that away, I would not be driving a Genesis.
Front seat support & comfort
First, I am a tall person and the seatbelt height adjustment does not go high enough, so if an accident should occur I believe that the shoulder belt will slip off. Also, the seats could be built more comfortable, more sporty.
