Reviewed: 2009 Nissan Rogue

4dr SUV 170-horsepower 2.5L I4 CVT AWD

Why the 2009 Nissan Rogue?

Powertrain performance

The CVT is a fascinating concept, and is "fun" to drive. Normal automatic transmissions are very reliable, but EXPENSIVE when they need repair. My hope is that a CVT will be more reliable over time, as it has like 10% of the moving parts.

Controls and instruments

The AWD, steering-wheel mounted paddle-shifters for the CVT, the Vehicle Dynamic Control, ABS & traction control, Electronic Brake Force Distribution all make for a sweet handling vehicle. Try donuts from a dead stop, accelerate at max. JUST TRY IT.

Feature availability

Lots of toys for a fair price, packages were logical.

Why Not the 2009 Nissan Rogue?

Audio & nav systems

There is no NAV available on a Rogue. The "best" audio available from the dealership is a customized Bose system, which is merely "ok", and not easily upgradable/customizable. (But it is 100% replaceable). Sirius satellite is not available, only XM.

Color choices

Only 2 bright colors- Red & Blue. Where is the bright yellow, ANY form of GREEN, a real PURPLE, etc? Where are the non-white/black/grey/beige/silver options, besides red/blue? THis is an industry wide issue..... BORING colors.

Dealer practices

Dealership with BEST salesman had WORST finance person- got same car, with more features, for $100 less per month at another Nissan dealership. Difference? $4,500 better on trade-in value, and loweer interest rate! Tier-1 credit and they pushed 6.9
