28000 0 Noticed a whining/gear-like noise during acceleration above 40mph. Dealer diagnosed the problem as being a faulty front differential. Was told it was safe to drive and repair parts ordered under original warranty.
29000 0 Installed new front diff gears only to realize problem was in the transmission. Special ordered new transmission parts (hence long repair time) and fixed the transmission. Loud whine gone, but new softer whine now. Returning to dealer.
30000 0 Under consultation from area Subaru tech, the dealership replaced the entire transmission and both front axle half-shafts. Finally,... the sound is gone.
