Introduction

We have owned this RAV for 5 years. Worst car I ever had.

1)Unreliable - at 20k miles developed an oil leak from transfer case. Repaired under warranty but took 6 days in total (waiting for parts). Out-of-warranty cost would be in excess of $1k. After repair, the steering wheel was off-center because the steering rack had to be removed to access the transfer case. Fast forward 3 years - it's leaking again. Dealer attempted another repair, still leaking as soon as brought back home. Another trip to the dealer. Dealer replaced transfer case, tested the car, still leaking. Dealer replaced transmission and the leak stopped. In total $8k in repairs (covered by warranty), 4 repair attempts and over 20 days in the shop. I was lucky that I caught it before the powertrain warranty expired. Toyota customer service was really bad, dragging their feet and nickel-and-diming at every step. The "case manager" was rude and unhelpful.

2) Uncomfortable - the ride is very stiff and harsh, even small road imperfections result in harsh jolts, and driving over uneven road surface is plain torture. Seats are tiny and uncomfortable. The bottom is very narrow and short, and the back is oddly shaped. Adjusting lumbar support doesn't help much. I am 5'7, 155 lb, and I can't imagine how anybody over 6' could even fit in the front seats. Rear seat isn't any better - flat, hard, and with very limited leg room.

3) Noisy - noisy engine, bad road (tire) noise. It's like driving with windows open all the time.

4) Cheap interior, full of hard plastic and cheap-looking immitation leather. Also, the plastic upholstery has an odd and unpleasant smell, especially on hot days.
Overall, this RAV has been the most disappointing car we have ever owned (and I have owned ~20). NOT RECOMMENDED and makes me think if I will ever buy another Toyota again (we had 7 Toyotas so far).
