Why the 2006 Toyota RAV4?

Powertrain performance

Great power and accelleration

Cargo capacity

Sufficient capacity for what I need. Lower hidden rear compartment is a good security measure. Easily tows my boat.

Brand reputation & image

Good reputation affected my choice. Undeserved.

Safety & braking

ABS and stability control work well. It did fail and when it was not working, the difference was very noticeable.

Why Not the 2006 Toyota RAV4?

Reliability & durability

Power steering failed within 3 months of new. 4 wheel drive actuator failed.

Materials & workmanship

Heating duct drains were not installed properly causing water to drain into passenger compartment. The evap cannister will fill with gas if you top up your tank beyond the first click at the pump, causing it to fail. Poor design. $1000 repair.

Dealer practices

The 4WD actuator was an intermittent problem which was reported several times but not reported on the work order. When it became a permanent problem, it was beyond warranty by 3 months and they refused to pay the $3000 bill.

Price or payments

Significantly higher price than comparable vehicles.
