Reviewed: 2013 Toyota RAV4

4dr SUV 176-horsepower 2.5L I4 6-speed shiftable automatic AWD

Why the 2013 Toyota RAV4?

Exterior styling

Very modern styling and the barcelona red metallic paint is a great color.

Interior styling

Fresh modern interior with very simple, easy-to-use controls and gauges.

Fuel economy

Fuel economy is exactly as advertised, 25mpg overall.

Cargo capacity

This car has the most cargo room in the class with is very important to me being the father of two young children.

Feature availability

The car is a mixed bag when it comes to standard features. I have the base model LE with AWD. It has a standard backup camera, 6 inch touchscreen audio system and rear privacy glass which is great. However some corners were cut also. 16 inch steel wheels, non-body colored side mirrors and only auto down not auto up driver's window are a few examples.

Why Not the 2013 Toyota RAV4?

Handling

Handling overall is fine but the electric power steering is extremely light and vague when driving at very low speeds. Once you pick up speed it has more weight to it but pulling into a parking spot for example the steering gets way too light.

Materials & workmanship

Some of the materials are of good quality but some, like the fake carbon fiber, is very cheap looking.

Ride smoothness

The ride quality is okay but can get a little jarring over rough pavement.

Conclusion

This is definitely the best all around car in the small suv class. In my opinion it has the best combination of cargo capacity, fuel economy, reliability, resale value, features and performance.
