Jeep Grand Cherokee Reliability And Durability: Cons
YearComment
2014 The current generation Grand Cherokee had a fairly rough first year, and the 2014 refresh also appears to have added some glitches. If the past is any guide, though these problems should be ironed out soon, if they haven't been already. One notable problem area: the air suspension that adds to the Jeep's off-road capability can be a source of expensive (once out of warranty) repairs. full 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee review

2012 4dr SUV 360-horsepower 5.7L V8
5-speed shiftable automatic AWD w/low range
Air suspension was problematic and took over a month at the dealer and 4 visits to finally get fixed. Also had problems with the radio and the memory settings getting wiped out. Occassional electric gremlins. full 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee review
2012 4dr SUV 360-horsepower 5.7L V8
5-speed shiftable automatic AWD w/low range
With all the good things to say, one drawback I have is with some of the components that have failed so far. With only 46,000 kilometers (less than 30,000 miles) on it, it has had one front shock absorber fail, the water pump fail, a small engine coolant leak and three factory recall notices. As a retired mechanic, I realize with all the complicated equipment in today's vehicles, some items are bound to fail, but as this vehicle has not seen any offroad activity nor been driven hard, I am a little disappionted with all the repairs that it has needed. With that said, I STILL love my Jeep and think it is still better than its competition. full 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee review
2011 4dr SUV 360-horsepower 5.7L V8
5-speed shiftable automatic AWD w/low range
Already in for major repair with only 500 miles on it full 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee review
2011 4dr SUV 360-horsepower 5.7L V8
5-speed shiftable automatic AWD w/low range
As I said this is our fourth Jeep and one must be prepared for poor reliability. Chrysler does not seem to be able to build a reliable vehicle. I don't know if it is poor quality control, poor parts supplier, poor training of assembly line workers full 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee review
2008 0 I have a love hate relationship with my jeep. Love it when it's running but I'm not happy with the reliability. Repairs have been all after warranty expired; glow plug module...$700 swirl motor...$600 this could of been $6000 but green deisel engeneering saved the day high pressure power starting line ...$500 alternator...$1000 many glow plugs and engine start failures just lots of gremlins full 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee review
2008 4dr SUV turbocharged 215hp 3.0L V6 Diesel
5-speed shiftable automatic AWD w/low range
too early to tell but reports are poor full 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee review
2005 4dr SUV 230-horsepower 4.7L V8
5-speed shiftable automatic AWD w/low range
The Grand Cherokee has had very bad electical problems. It seems that you can either get a really good one, or a really bad one. full 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee review
2002 4dr SUV 235-horsepower 4.7L V8
5-speed automatic AWD w/low range
Very poor reliability. Known failures of heater blower doors, window regulators, brake systems. Failures usually out of warranty. Same poor designs carried over from 2001 to 2004. full 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee review
2000 4dr SUV 195-horsepower 4.0L I6 w/DoD
4-speed automatic 4WD w/low range
Lots of problems with the front differential and axle on the Selec-Trac 4x4 full 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee review
