2013	Yes, the most impressive aspect of the Focus ST's engine is its fuel economy. A Mitsubishi Evo is rated 17 mpg city, 23 mpg highway by the EPA. A MazdaSpeed3, 18/25. The Ford Focus ST easily exceeds them both, with guilt-free EPA ratings of 23/32. Not that the engine's performance isn't also impressive. With 252 horsepower and 270 foot-pounds of torque, the limiting factor at low speeds is the ability of the front tires to transfer this power and torque to the pavement. At higher speeds it's quick, but not blazingly so. At 3,300 pounds, the Focus ST is too heavy for that. The car's quietness and refinement aren't entirely without a downside. The turbo's boost comes on as a smooth surge, not with a punch to the lower back. Consequently, the Focus ST doesn't feel as quick as it is. see full Ford Focus review

But the ST struggles to achieve anything close to EPA estimates in the real world. Mileage is more like a minivan than a small sedan. 2004	2dr Extended Cab 6ft bed 207-horsepower 4.0L V6 5-speed automatic 4WD, part-time w/low range	I average anywhere between 16 and 19 mpg, I believe that Ford could achieve alot better fuel economy out of a truck the size of a Ranger that doesnt even have a V8 see full Ford Ranger review
2003	2dr Extended Cab 6ft bed 207-horsepower 4.0L V6 5-speed manual 4WD, part-time w/low range	I averaged 15-16mpg in mixed driving during the summer. About 11-12mpg in the winter. On long trips I could get 18-20mpg, but the best I ever got out of it was 23mpg going down the I80 into California. see full Ford Ranger review

I would not want to give up power to get better gas mileage. I do feel Ford could improve on fuel economy. see full Ford Ranger review
