2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Review Official TrueDelta review by Michael Karesh Though the new Mazda MX-5 Miata's 2.0-liter engine is only good for 155 horsepower, thanks to the car's low 2,322-pound curb weight the small roadster can accelerate from a dead stop to 60 mph in about six-and-a-half seconds. This might not be quite as quick as the current MINI Cooper... Comparison vehicle: 2013 Mini Roadster |
2012 Mazda MX-5 Miata Review Official TrueDelta review by Michael Karesh Some people would put the Miata's powertrain performance among the reasons not to buy one. The 2.0-liter engine is peaky, kicking out 167 horsepower at a lofty 7,000 rpm. But for me, for what this car is, this engine is about perfect. Given the Miata's light weight, there's enough power,... Comparison vehicle: 2013 Scion FR-S |

Mazda MX-5 2007 - I love it 2007 Mazda MX-5 Miata Pros and Cons A member in Georgia, United States The gearbox is fantastic. The engine is lively - but more flexible than aggressive. |

2009 Mazda MX-5 Miata Pros and Cons Member5266 Powerful engine for car weight. 5 speed manual transmission. Regularly exceeds mpg estimates. Get 28-34 mpg. |
|
2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata Pros and Cons Member5144 Fast without being obscenely overpowered. About as much power as one could reasonable use; perfectly mated to overall package. Best shifting 5 speed ever. |

2000 Mazda Miata MX-5 Pros and Cons Member373 It is a small sports car; handling is done through the throttle, steering is predictable, the engine feels peppy and the car gives the impression of going really fast. |
|
2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata Pros and Cons Member4319 Surprisingly strong. The 6-speed is almost as good as the Honda S2000. The car itself feels almost the same as an S2000 all the way up to 7/10ths. |

2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata Pros and Cons Member255 Not the most powerful engine. But very adequate and amazingly reliable. Very responsive throttle; never any hesitation. (Does rev very high.) Optional 6spd manual = very precise shifts. High revs between shifts = very quick/fun thrust. Nice exhaust note. |

2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata Pros and Cons Member4354 Pedal response is immediate, the transmission is spaced about right, and the shifter is smooth but still knotchy enough to make it very fun and engaging. Stop and go traffic is actually fun. The clutch is also just right in terms of feel and effort. |

2003 Mazda Miata MX-5 Pros and Cons A member in California, United States The engine is not a powerhouse, but it gives an excellent balance of performnace and economy. Rated at 21 / 28, I often get mixed mileage of 26 and up to 33mpg on the highway. |

2009 Mazda MX-5 Miata Pros and Cons Member2375 Great performance from a 2-liter engine, high red-line |
|
2003 Mazda Miata MX-5 Pros and Cons Member3100 Civil under 4000 rpm. Gets lively over that, but never brutal. Clearly NOT a drag racing machine, but does move the little car fast. Manual transmission is known for hard 2nd gear shifts when driving sedately, but is precise and smooth elsewhere. |

2004 Mazda Miata MX-5 Pros and Cons Member2100 IT IS RIGHT UP THERE WITH THE 3 SERIES 335XI n fun |
|
2003 Mazda Miata MX-5 Pros and Cons Member2186 No torque, flat acceleration arch. In order to make it scoot, you really have to over-rev to the redline to keep the powerband solid, but it still feels dog slow, especially going up slight inclines. Constantly having to downshift to overtake is annoying |
