2015	The SE's grippier tires knock the Toyota Camry Hybrid's EPA ratings down from 43/39 to 40/38. The Ford Fusion Hybrid tests better, 44/41, while the Honda Accord Hybrid tests far better, 50/45. Then there's the real world, where, according to the cars' trip computers, my suburban average was in the low 40s in all three (the Lincoln MKZ standing in for the Fusion) and topped 50 on trips with no unexpected stops (i.e. any braking could be gradual enough to rely almost entirely on energy regeneration rather than the friction brakes). The Camry Hybrid acheived the best reported mpg on my standard school-to-home run--an astounding 70.6--but it started this particular trip with a eight bars in the battery pack (fully charged) and ended it with just two. You can only drive two, maybe three miles on electricity, but when the route totals 7.5 miles even a couple with the gas engine off can generously pad the average. On a 70-mph highway the Camry's trip computer reported averages in the low 40s. I wasn't able to test the Honda on the highway. The Lincoln MKZ hybrid's reported somewhat better numbers than the Camry's, but there's not a large percentage difference between 43.7 and 47.4. Any number of factors besides the cars themselves (trip computer accuracy, driving speed, wind conditions) could account for this difference. Frankly, I'm mightly impressed by any midsize sedan that can consistently average over 40 mpg, as these all can with light-footed acceleration and (especially) braking. see full Toyota Camry review

The latest response from the dealer is the milage will improve after I have driven 12,000 miles . That is the fourth milestone i have been told to reach for better fuel economy. The dealer refused to put the car in the shop to check out this problem. Last week i drove 286 miles to Louisville, KY and back with 246 miles on interstate highways at 65 mph. I drove with the Eco light lite with slow acceleration. I have spoken with other 2012 owners and they report the same milage. On the highway, it's particularly sensitive to speed, as the car is not very aerodynamic. I got as bad as 16 l/100 Km in the city, and as low as 8.8 l/100 Km on long trips. 2019	Toyota improved the RAV4 Hybrid's fuel economy dramatically with the redesign. The model's EPA highway rating has surged from 30 to 38 mpg, while its city rating has jumped from 34 to 41 mpg. In suburban driving I easily achieved trip computer averages in the low 40s, with a max of 50. On a 70-mph highway I observed averages from 35 to 38 mpg. While still much less efficient than a Prius, which is lighter and lower, the RAV4 now delivers the fuel economy people expect from a hybrid. With all-wheel-drive (standard on the Hybrid), the non-hybrid RAV4 manages EPA ratings of 25 city and 33 highway. The Subaru Forester achieves similar marks, 26/33. So the new RAV4 Hybrid earns its keep, especially in city driving. A Kia Niro goes farther on a gallon of gas, but is considerably smaller than the RAV4 and isn't offered with AWD. see full Toyota RAV4 review

It is suburbia, USA and that means you hit lots of stop lights and have to get up to 45, just to stop for another stop light. Rarely is there ever any real highway driving, in which you go for 5+ miles at highway speed. So all in all, a 23-25mpg in this situation is great. At higher highway speeds, for long periods, I say 28mpg (acutal measured using miles and gallons calcs) vs. trusting the car computer. For the size and weight of the car, I'd say that is great! And I leave it in the ECO mode, to save more MPGs though there is a normal mode, and sport mode. The car has plenty of power, even in ECO mode, so don't be fooled by fancy ads, the mpg's are great! see full Toyota RAV4 review

My FR-S easily handles the same in the mid-20s. Maybe less idling / crawling / jackrabbit starting and I'll get the average up.
