In cars this age, I'd have much more faith in the Honda. Older Subarus often become troublesome.

I can't devide between a 2005-2006 Subaru Forester and a 2005-2006 Honda CR-V? Which one is most reliable?
Will consider new cars only

Agreed. The 2006 CRV was the last year i liked (before they got rid of the tire on the back). Felt well built, smooth (for a small crossover), had a 5-speed auto in an age of 4 speeds, etc.
Older Foresters are also "unrefined for the sake of feeling more utilitarian" as a friend put it recently, if that makes sense.
