The Right Car for Me: Big Family Hauler

Nissan NV2000 Passenger with the V-8. Comfortable, up to 12 passenger or fewer with massive cargo area, and towing anything you can throw at it. But- very thirsty. Big families love it. But if you do not need to tow such a lot, the V-6 will do, or the Ford Transit is a good alternative. (Note to the editor- niether models are listed on the brand-name drop-downs. ) My son with 6 kids love the Transit, after getting a much better deal than was available on the NV2000 Passenger. And with all 12 seats in place, still a lot of cargo room, more than the NV with all 12 seats. the Transit gets much better mileage than the NV, but cannot tow as much.

Thanks Jim,

We already have a minivan, and the wife has vetoed fullsize vans previously. Also we need the 4x4 to tow the ATV's to riding locations, going to the mountain in the winter, and camping at the dunes.

Look at a 2008 Toyota Sequoia, the first year of the second generation. For some reason, I know at least 5 people who have a white, first generation Toyota Sequoia. Two of them have over 300,000 miles, which is amazing. They take them camping and do light off roading. It'll last forever (much longer than the unreliable Suburban and Expedition) and it's great for towing.

The 5.7L V8 is very powerful, rated to tow around 10,000 lbs in 4x4 form. I looked up some Sequoias and found some for less than $20,000 for top of the line Platnum 4x4s with 120,000 miles.
