Decent, cheap extra SUV for carrying the family on occasional trips. Not for daily driver.

The Right Car for Me | TrueDelta

Member4808

I am mainly looking for reliability. I've seen some 2003-2005 Honda Pilots and Toyota Highlanders and Sequoias, which look interesting, but I'm interested in real-world experiences with reliability. This will be an extra car, not a daily driver.

Priorities: Price or payments / Reliability & durability / Ride smoothness

Preferred Bodystyle(s): SUV

Car Needs: Family transporter / Errands about town / Long trips

Primary Driver(s): Short driver

Will consider new cars only

I'd also like to hear what owners have to say. Both the Highlander and Pilot appear reliable in our stats. We don't have much data on the Sequoia.

Do you need all-wheel drive? How roomy does the third-row seat have to be?

Hi Rob,

We have a 2001 4WD Sequoia with 120,000 trouble-free miles. We bought it used in 2003 and loved it when our 5 boys were younger. They're all grown but the Sequoia remains the go-to for road trips. Very comfortable, sufficient power and great in snow with our mud and snow tires.

I tend to baby our cars and she still looks great inside and out. We have no plans to get rid of her. Very solid with a bullet-proof engine. Highly recommend.

We have a 2015 Highlander and are very pleased with it. We also test drove the Honda CRV but wanted something a little bigger. We also loved our Chevy Traverse although it is a bigger car.
