Fuel efficient daily commuter

I'm looking to replace my 2007 Corolla in the new few months. The things I've loved about this car are it's reliability and gas mileage, but I do get jealous when I drive my husband's Audi A4! I am looking for something that is a bit of an upgrade from the Corolla, but still reliable and fuel efficient. I will drive it to work and around town mostly, but it will also be used on any longer road trips we have. In the future, it could be used to haul kids and all of their associated gear. I plan to look at the Accord and Camry, but what about other options?

Lexus didn't have much luck selling the HS 250h hybrid, but it might fit what you're looking for. A nationwide search on Autotrader finds a few with asking prices just above your limit.
