Fuel-efficient AWD family hauler

The Right Car for Me | TrueDelta

naimo

We're looking for a car with AWD, good MPG (real user reported fuel economy >27mpg) big enough cargo for our family trips, and some daily commute.

With used and new car prices being so crazy these days, we're trying to find a good value reliable used car that'll give us a few years until hopefully prices go down and we can reasonably purchase something like a RAV4 hybrid of Prime.

Our best guess right now is a 2013-2015 Mazda CX-5 with up to 100000miles on the odometer. Would love to get the thoughts of the community !

Priorities: Safety & braking / Fuel economy / Reliability & durability

Need minimum of 5 seats

Will consider both new and used cars
Maximum mileage: 99000
Maximum age: 10 years

Maximum price: US $ 18000

Current market pricing makes recommendations tough. I would hope you wouldn't have to go all the way to a 2013 or 2014 to get a CX-5 under $18,000. Looking around, it seems like you should be able to get a 2016 and maybe even a 2017 for that price. The 2017 was the first year of the somewhat more upscale second-generation CX-5.

If you don't absolutely require a crossover, the 2019 and up Mazda3 hatch is also offered with AWD. More fun to drive, but less interior space. It could also be very difficult to find one nearby.
