I can provide some input that might help. I just moved from 2.5 years of leasing a 2013 Acura MDX base into the lease of a 2015 Acura RDX AWD Tech. While I liked the MDX, the overall size was too big for my needs and the gas mileage was pretty bad (17-ish overall). But I still needed to comfortably seat 4 adults, be able to haul a reasonable amount, and tow a small utility trailer. I opted for the RDX because it suited all of the needs that I had, at least on paper. But given my Acura experience (the RDX is our 7th overall) I pulled the trigger. AFter a month of ownership I can say I'm very pleased. Very comfortable for adults in the front and back, tons of pickup and power, and a 5 MPG increase on average over what my MDX offered. You didn't state in your request whether you wanted AWD or not, and whether a tech package w/nav is what you'd want. But with the 2015 being the last year before the 2016 redesign, there are good deals to be had on all trim levels that are within your target scope. Remember that the tech package gives you HID headlights, remote hatch open/close and fog lights along with the nav/audio goodies. Overall, I'm very happy with this choice, as it blends comfort and a tad of luxury along with great gas mileage (22 around town is as good as the wife's TL SH-AWD, upper 20's on the highway) and decent power with the 3.5L V6....

For fuel economy and quietness in a compact SUV, you can't beat the Buick Encore. It's very reliable so far in our survey as well.

The new Lincoln MKC also has a smooth, quiet ride--I liked how it drives much better than the Acura RDX--but it isn't as fuel efficient or (intially at least) as reliable as the Buick.
