Fun, reliable car that can handle snow

The Right Car for Me | TrueDelta

Member6459

I am looking for a car that's safe and can handle Montana winters, and has good acceleration. I will be using it for long work trips/ around town. I would prefer AWD but some people say a FWD with snow tires is almost just as good (I've only driven AWD). The Subaru impreza is my default option, but I am also considering a 2013 S60 T5 Volvo, but am concerned about the cost of maintenance and reliability. The question is do I go with a new base model Impreza or a nicer used car? As this is my first car, any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Preferred Bodystyle(s): Coupe

Need minimum of 5 seats

Will consider both new and used cars
Maximum mileage: 30000
Maximum age: 5 years

Maximum price: US $ 20000

Subaru is a good choice has the best AWD considering the price. Look at the Ford or Chervolet line of AWD models
Hard to find a new car in the 20,000 range.

Even with all-wheel-drive you should strongly consider getting a second set of wheels and tires for the winter.

Also be sure to check insurance costs in advance.

You can get a 2013 Volvo with AWD for $20,000? This is much less than I would have guessed. The reliability of the current generation has been okay but not great so far.

What are your other priorities? The Mazda CX-5 has been very popular with members, and might be a good fit for you. For good accleration, look for one with the 2.5-liter engine.
