General NotesHow do we select "competing car models"? Users of TrueDelta's car price comparison tool most often compare these cars to the Hyundai.

Models and statistics marked with an asterisk (*) have very low sample sizes. These results, visible only to logged-in members, provide only a rough estimate of car reliability.

Any result under 5 repair trips per 100 cars is likely a result of the small sample size, and should be expected to increase in future updates.

New models often start out with high repair rates, and then improve as the manufacturer identifies and addresses common problems. MethodologyOnly successfully completed repairs are currently included in the analysis. Routine maintenance, most wear items, recalls, and problems fixed with just a reflash or warning light reset are not included.

A year ago, the 2010 and 2011 Elantra Touring had similar stats. Since then the stat for the 2010 has improved while that for the 2011 has worsened--end of the warranty blip? Recently front suspension repairs seem most common.

These stats are promptly updated four times a year, to much more closely track Hyundai reliability as the cars age. Others tell you how reliable the Hyundai was a year ago, when the cars were a year younger and had 12,000 fewer miles on them. Only TrueDelta tells you how reliable the Hyundai has been recently.

8-speed automated manual AWD		 My previous vehicle (2005 Chevy Equinox AWD LT V6) was not very reliable. Over $10k in major repair costs over 12 years. Not talking about things like tires and brakes either. Head gasket repairs, carrier bearing, drive shaft, fuel pump, etc. I wanted a vehicle with a good reliability rating. The Ford Edge had listed some "major" concerns for me (the 2015 had water leaking issues, the 2016 had sunroof issues along with body rattles/creaks due to poor welding). 5-speed shiftable automatic RWD		 I have had this car just over three years and it is my daily driver. It is driven year-around and my typical commute is through rural back roads. I am nearing 49k miles and I have had one minor cosmetic issue which was quickly and hassle-free dealt with under warranty. I had 47k miles and a cosmetic issue was corrected. I don't drive my car like I stole it, but I do not baby it at all. I have modified the suspension to improve cornering and feel and I typically exceed speed limits everywhere I go. I do keep-up with maintenance religiously. This car has been absolutely reliable and trouble-free. It is fun to drive, looks great and I am expecting to have it for a number of additional years. We like this car so much my wife bought an Elanta GT for herself. see full Hyundai review

I had to replace the high pressure fuel pump at 35,000 miles and the rear O2 sensor at 55,000. I have heard about engine failures in 2011 Sonatas and got a notice that my model year is also included in this recall. It makes me uneasy to have had some of the prior issues and then have to worry about my engine on top of that. see full Hyundai review

6-speed shiftable automatic FWD		 We purchased this vehicle new and paid over 26k for it - until this week, we have been generally OK with the purchase (not excited, just OK). Well, it didn't start early this week, stranding my wife at night, in a vacant parking lot. No fun - we eventually got her, and left the Santa Fe. We called to have it towed to the local Hyundai dealership (North Park in Covington) - after all it only has 62k highway miles it and has been greatly taken care of, and it does have the 100k warranty, right? They led me to believe the warranty would cover repairs, but then they said the Starter was bad (we had owned many vehicles in 50 or so years - never a starter failure). Anyway, 100k coverage should take care of their (they said 580 bucks for a Starter - can you believe it) repair on this vehicle. We had it towed to the dealer specifically because of the warranty coverage. Well, the starter is now NOT part of a powertrain (have you ever seen a powertrain operate without a STARTER)? DISGUSTING to say the least - Our family has purchased multiple new Hyundai's from THIS exact dealer, and they cannot cover the STARTER? This sucks. Then later that day I found a TSB from Hyundai on a "cheap" fix for these Starter issues (less than 10 bucks for the part), but OF COURSE this doesn't apply to our repair - we need a NEW one. THEN, they don't have any starters in stock - WOW - NONE, and wanted me to pay extra to ship it faster, or I'd have to wait all week. THEN, I called Hyundai National Customer Service, and they did NOTHING for me. HYUNDAI, you SUCK. see full Hyundai review
