Volvo Reliability for the Year Ending June 30, 2018

General NotesHow do we select "competing car models"? Users of TrueDelta's car price comparison tool most often compare these cars to the Volvo.

Models and statistics marked with an asterisk (*) have very low sample sizes. These results, visible only to logged-in members, provide only a rough estimate of car reliability.

Any result under 5 repair trips per 100 cars is likely a result of the small sample size, and should be expected to increase in future updates.

New models often start out with high repair rates, and then improve as the manufacturer identifies and addresses common problems. MethodologyOnly successfully completed repairs are currently included in the analysis. Routine maintenance, most wear items, recalls, and problems fixed with just a reflash or warning light reset are not included.

2006 4dr Wagon A boxer with a glass jaw. Mechanically, the V50 is a solid, secure vehicle. HOWEVER, it is knit together by an immensly complex (to my 20th century mind) mix of three network busses and ~ fifteen interconnected processors. If this system fails to deliver, only the dealer can diagnose or repair the software side of the vehicle. Even a low battery can result in a bewildering array of symptoms, as various modules get their stories mixed up, with doors locking and unlocking, the CD changer cycling, etc... all due to (in my case) corrosion under the battery terminal! On a smaller note, the tail gate has an electrical ONLY latch. In my six months of ownership, there have been two times when I needed to open that tail gate while the battery was out of the car. see full Volvo review
2005 4dr SUV Too many issues with the T6 transmission, front end, and rear wheel hub bearings. At 3000 miles had to have front drive axle and ball joints replaced. At 31000 had both rear hub bearings replaced. No transmission replaced, but the history time is comin see full Volvo review
