Impreza Outback Comparison for LA driving

The Right Car for Me | TrueDelta

Member4666

I'm really looking to just upgrade from my current car (2007 Subaru Impreaza Outback Sport) in the next few years. My Car is paid off so I'm looking to drive it for a while longer, but I'd like to start researching the differences in quality / body style/ changes for the Subaru Impreza Outback for 2012/ 13/ 14/ 15. I keep finding conflicting reports of the changes and quality, so I'd love a "Metacritic" of that range of Subaru. I'm open to other brands/ models in that year range, but I've always been happiest with Subaru.

Priorities: Reliability & durability / Materials & workmanship / Safety & braking

Preferred Bodystyle(s): Sedan / Hatch / Wagon

Car Needs: Daily commuter / Family transporter / Errands about town / Long trips

Need minimum of 5 seats

Will consider both new and used cars
Maximum mileage: 25000
Maximum age: 4 years

Maximum price: US $ 25000

Overall these cars have been very reliable, but some owners report excessive oil consumption, especially with the 2012s and somewhat with the 2013s. I think the low-tension piston rings fitted to boost fuel economy don't always seal well. The newer the Impreza, the less likely it is to have this problem. But if you find a 2012 where you can somehow verify that it hasn't had this problem, it'll likely be okay.
