Sports car convertible that is fun and comfortable to drive. Currently have a 2002 Mazda Miata convertible and its fun but ready for something newer or different. What are pro's & con's for the BMW Z4?

Priorities: Handling / Ride smoothness / Quietness

Preferred Bodystyle(s): Convertible

Car Needs: Daily commuter / Fun toy

Primary Driver(s): Senior driver / Short driver

Need minimum of 2 seats

Will consider both new and used cars
Maximum mileage: 50000
Maximum age: 12 years

The main con is that a BMW isn't likely to be as reliable as your Miata has been. But if driven only occasionally, and then on good roads in good whether, a Z4 is usually much more reliable than your typical daily driven BMW of the same age.

The Z4 is more comfortable than your Miata, but it is much heavier and doesn't handle with the same agility. It's steering is also somewhat numb.

If it's within your budget, you should take a look at the new Miata before buying a different sports car. The new Miata is more comfortable than any previous one, and feels very different from your 2002.

Thank you and thats exactly what I have been thinking, get a newer miata. Do you have a suggestion for what year to start looking at?

Not really. It depends on your budget and which you like best. The NC and ND generations both feel like different cars than your NB, and than each other. A couple test drives should tell you which you prefer, and if either is what you're now looking for.
