My mother is 71 and she has had a Honda CRV AWD for 5 years and loves it. Ithas been a great and reliable vehicle for her throughall seasons. Handles great in snow and rain and drives very smoothly all around. My wife will be getting one in he coming spring as well.

The Volvos from 2012 on have been reliable so far. But we don't have any reliability data on recent years of the V50. The last year offered with AWD was the 2010, and then only with a turbocharged engine.

The Jetta SW wasn't available with AWD. Reliability has been so-so.

Minis are hit and miss. Many are fine. Some are horrific.

The Outback has been reliable from 2010 on. Older that that, not nearly as reliable.

If you can relax the AWD requirement, the Acura TSX could be a good fit.

They don't handle especially well, but the most reliable AWD sort-wagons in your price range are probably the Honda Crosstour and Toyota Venza.

The next size down, Toyota also offered the Matrix with AWD.
