I think the Ram 1500 v6 with eigt speed automatic would fit your needs. It has plenty of power and gets as good gas mileage as the tacoma. Very quite interior and you can probably get one for about what you'd pay for a Tacoma. As far as reliability, I've had two and they have been excellent vehicles for me and the new ones have a long power train warranty.

If I were you I'd probably wait until the Colorado comes out, or wait until the Tacoma gets redesigned, but that could be a long wait for the Tacoma. The Colorado should definitely be a much nicer truck than the current Tacoma. It'll probably be less reliable, though.

Reading what you are looking for you wont need a pick up, you will have more options adding an SUV in. Some cars can tow a pop up with out an issue.
A friend of mine purchased a 2014 Toyota Tacoma to replace his 2006 F250 to get better gas mileage & he is pissed. His Toyota gets worse MPG (10) & has been back to dealer 5 times since he got it last year.
I would narrow down to 3-4 vehicles & get a seat of the pants feel before you purchase after you get idea of what the camper will weigh once loaded up. If you put a lot of mileage on a diesel would be good to look into.
