The Juke is a lot of fun, so I would write it off too quickly.
The Buick Encore isn't as quick or as sporty as the Juke, but it is much less weird and much quieter. So far it has been reliable in our survey. If you don't like the styling, Chevrolet offers essentially the same vehicle with the Trax. But the Trax has only been available for a few months, so no used ones. Also, you can't get forward collision warning, a valuable safety feature, on the Trax, but it is an option on the Encore.
Steppiing up a size class, the Mazda CX-5 might work for you. It's a little quieter inside than the Juke, not as quiet as the Encore. On the other hand, while not as sporty as the Juke, it is sportier than the Encore. Look for one with the 2.5-liter engine, as the 2.0 originally offered feels slow.
A smaller CX-3 coming this fall has been getting outstanding early reviews, but it could be too expensive depending on which features you require.
