I am thinking a rav4 or a cr-v. Are there any other SUVs that have better or similar reliability in old age?

You can check the reliability stats on the site, but probably not. The CR-V has consistently been highly reliable. But after ten years even the Honda starts requiring some repairs.

Curious what attributes of an SUV are most imporant to you (AWD, cargo space, driving position)?
For MPG and AWD, I've seen the Subaru Impreza usually gets high marks. A quick search for best AWD and MPG came back with this article and suggests possibly a Ford Escape as an option to the CR-V, although that is for a new vehicle.

My wife likes to feel higher up, so I guess driving position. I could use the cargo space for my work, but I made due with a 2003 civic sedan.

I will checkout the impreza and the escape. thanks.
