delivery driving

The Right Car for Me | TrueDelta

Member6301

I'm looking for a car that will be used for long drives/delivery. It needs decent cargo space in addition to the priorities I have listed. The key point that will make or break is cost effectiveness, how long it will last in relation owner cost. Needs to be comfortable enough to endure 250-350 miles of driving in a day. Nightdriving visibility must be good.Handling and engine power are not a priority, but they can't be overlooked.Good fuel economy would be a plus.I have driven a 2015 Toyota Camry SE and liked it, but I'mnot sure that its the best choice. I have considered hatchbacks and wagons, but at this point I can't see their superior practicality for the kind of delivery that I do.

Preferred Bodystyle(s): Sedan

Car Needs: Long trips

Primary Driver(s): Short driver

Need minimum of 5 seats

Will consider both new and used cars
Maximum mileage: 60000
Maximum age: 5 years

Maximum price: US $ 15000

Impressions of seat comfort vary greatly, partly because people differ in size and shape. Given how hard it is to evaluate long-distance seat comfort in a brief test drive, I'd try to rent or otherwise drive some candidates for an entire day. Some large used car chains like Carmax might provide a one-to-two-day trial. If so, you might be able to thoroughly evaluate a few different cars.

The Camry could be a good choice. For maximum fuel economy, you might be able to find a Camry Hybrid in your price range.

A 2006-2012 Ford Fusion might also serve you well. The 2010 has had issues with the throttle body, but these might have been resolved by a recall. Reliability has been iffy for the 2013 and up.

The Buick Verano is a smaller sedan, but is very quiet and has comfortable seats. Reliability has been very good so far, but the oldest ones are only three years old. So this could potentially change.

The related Chevrolet Cruze is almost as quiet and gets significantly better fuel economy, but its reliability record has not been as good.

If you're willing to drive a car with a manual transmission, I like the Ford Focus. Otherwise I don't trust the reliability of its automatic. Fairly quiet with (in my opinion) very good seats.

Finally, Lexus only offered the HS 250h sedan for a couple of years, so they might be hard to find. But reliability, fuel economy, comfort, and quietness should be good.

If you're putting that many miles on a car, a Prius is probably going to be your most economical option, although I know it's technically a hatchback. MPG is great. Repair costs are low. You ought to be able to put 150k on one with minimal repairs. You would theoretically minimize your costs by getting one in the $5-10k range, mid '00's, ~100k miles. Drive it till the wheels fall off.
