Looking for a more econmical car than a 2003 fairmont 6cyl. so far we have looked at a Toyota Aurion Presara which the wife likes,but would consider another vehicle that has the same level of features.

Priorities: Fuel economy / Reliability & durability / Interior styling

If you'll be owning the new car past its tenth birthday, it's hard to argue against a Toyota or Honda. They cost more as older cars, but there's a reason for this. The Aurion Presara is similar to the U.S. Toyota Camry V6, but in a more upscale trim.

The V6 standard in the Aurion won't be very economical. For that you'll want the related Camry with a four-cylinder engine. I wouldn't assume that the four-cylinder isn't powerful enough without test driving one.

Toyota also offers a Camry Hybrid. The battery packs in those sometimes need replacing around 250,000 km, but in many cases last longer than that.
