I wouldn't go for the RVR unless it's far less expensive than the others. It's just not impressive in any way.

The CX-3 is the sportiest, but has by far the least room inside. So it depends on how much interior space you need.

For comfort, the Buick Encore might be the best in the segment. It's been doing very well in our reliability survey. Fuel economy might lag the Mazda and Subaru a bit, though.

The Crosstrek is roomier than the Mazda or Buick, but could be less comfortable. Definitely worth a test drive.

What did you like and dislike about each of the cars you looked at?

The Buick Encore or the Envision for the most comfortable and quietest in their segments. Or choose a used 2016 Envision Premium l for around $30,000 for the best AWD this side of a BMW.
