A used Buick Encore with AWD is a hoot to drive. Nicely sized for parking lot maneuvers but in the segment leading refinement and ride quality.
We had an Encore on a 2-year lease and really enjoyed it. For two adults and two full sized dogs it was snug for 7 hours of Xmas traveling plus gifts. It this was so much nicer than my then girlfriend's 2012 Forester to ride and drive in.
A used Chevy Tax might be found cheaper though as they come off lease.
